Italian Trade Commission – I.C.E., Veronafiere and Fiere di Parma promoting Made in Italy wine & food in China
From 29th November to 1st December 2007 the Vinitaly Cibus China in Shanghai

Shanghai, the 5th of September 2007 – Today in Shanghai the President of the Italian Trade Commission – I.C.E., Amb. Umberto Vattani, the Director of Veronafiere Giovanni Mantovani and the President of SIEC Tang Guifa, in the presence of Chinese media, have presented the edition of Vinitaly Cibus China 2007 - Salone dei vini e dei prodotti agroalimentari - the most well known fair exhibition in this sector in Asia, which is going to take place in the Shanghai Exhibition Center from 29th November to 1st December, organized with the Italian Trade Commission – I.C.E., by Veronafiere, by Fiere di Parma and by SIEC (Shanghai International Exhibition Company).
China represents a huge market with great potentialities for Italian wine and food products. Even though the per capita annual consumption of wine is only 0.9 litres, which was however 0.3 litres few years ago, limited compared to the traditional markets, the interest in wine is growing especially in the major towns and in the richest coastal areas.
In this context, the Italian wine import to China has grown exponentially in 2006, with an increase of more than 150%. Italy is the fifth exporter after France, Australia, Chile and Spain, but it has shown a much higher growth rate: Chinese consumers begin to understand the quality, the variety and the value of our wines.
For this reason, the steady cut of customs duties in the last few years is certainly going to increase imports from our country. Wine ranks, according to the Italian Trade Commission – I.C.E. data, at the second place in Made in Italy exports, with a share of 20%, preceded by products based on chocolate (36%), followed by olive oil (16%) and baked products (7%).
Vinitaly Cibus Cina has therefore attracted more and more attention and today benefits from the support of many partners including the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Policies, Ministry of International Trade, the regions of Emilia Romagna and Veneto, Federalimentare, Federvini, Unione Italiana Vini and Buonitalia Spa.
In the 2007 edition, which will be the 9th for Vinitaly China and the second organised by ICE and Cibus – Vinitaly Cibus China, many Italian institutions will be present with their products namely the Veneto Region, Sicily, Consortium of Brunello di Montalcino. Amongst individual producers, Casa Vinicola Gianni Zonin, loyal to the event since its first edition in 1998 has once again confirmed its participation.
