Belt & Road Brand Expo 2018 with the theme of “Quality Life to Share” was successfully closed at Shanghai Exhibition Center on July 1.
Integrating exhibition display, economic and trade exchange, consumption experience and cultural interpretation, the expo has attracted more than 200 companies from regions such as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Taiwan (China), and over 43 countries, including Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dominica, Ecuador, France, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Myanmar, New Zealand, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Uzbekistan and China.

The Expo occupied an area of nearly 15,000 square meters, with the exhibits covering food and beverage, skin care and cosmetics, handicraft, home decoration, jewelry and jade, clothing and accessories, lifestyle, tourism culture, investment promotion, etc.

To actively promote the “Belt and Road” international cooperation and progressively build the strategic advantages of Shanghai’s development, the expo has created a platform for consumers to purchase global products without leaving Shanghai. Moreover, most exhibitors directly brought local specialties from the place of origin without intermediates, many of them being new products exhibited for the first time.

With an intense atmosphere, the professional and experience-oriented expo has also actively explored and carried out the branding campaign for the four brands of Shanghai Service, Shanghai Manufacturing, Shanghai Shopping and Shanghai Culture.

There were a lot of people at the Croatian Pavilion as the Croatian specialties white truffles and air products aroused the strong curiosity of visitors.

The representative of the Croatian Chamber of Economy said that they brought goods with striking national characteristics this time; particularly, the air product had never been displayed in Shanghai before, and they participated in the expo mainly to collect market information for enterprises and explore the Chinese market in advance before introducing their business to China.
The UK Pavilion, which first appeared at the expo, was also so popular that its several collections of royal-certified brand products received unprecedented attention, including the KENT comb with a history of more than 200 years and symbolizing the quality assurance, the famous “Queen’s umbrella” FULTON Umbrella, etc.

Workers at the expo said that they currently only sold their products through online channels like Taobao and JD, but the promotion effect of the expo and the purchasing power of customers were beyond their expectation, so they would also consider the offline sales model so that more citizens could have access to the products with the same style as the Queen’s. At the expo this year, an Iranian handmade carpet with a length and width of 3.5 meters at the central hall was particularly eye-catching. The exhibitor of this Persian carpet introduced that it was inspired by the “Belt and Road” Initiative, combining histories, cultures and traditions of different countries and integrating blessing patterns such as the “tree of life” and “garnet”.

Seven craftsmen spent many years to complete all the colors with natural dye, which can be stored forever to express their support and response to the “Belt and Road” Initiative. In addition, Iran’s saffron, traditional handicrafts, etc. also attracted numerous visitors.

The representative of the Iran-China Chamber of Commerce said that as an extension of the good display effect of last expo, more visitors would get to understand the Persian culture and the local human landscape through the expo this year, expressing their desire to travel to Iran if possible.
The most popular pavilion at this expo was the Sri Lanka Pavilion. In addition to the well-known Ceylon black tea, an exhibition of jewelry was added this year to exhibit Sri Lanka’s most famous sapphire, opal and tourmaline, which was bedazzling in the light.

The staff at the on-site booth also popularized the tips of purchasing, wearing and maintaining gemstones to the visitors, many of whom bought their favorite ones.
Ghana, as a representative of Africa at the expo, brought its national treasure – a skincare product made of shea butter.

An exhibitor from the Ghana-China Chamber of Commerce said that it was his first time to participate in the expo and that with the development of China’s economy, as more and more Chinese tourists would visit Ghana, Ghana’s tourism industry would become the next sector worth expanding under the “Belt and Road” Initiative and Shanghai must be the most important market.

In the Corporate Pavilion, some exhibitors from Ordos, Huzhou, Xinjiang and Taiwan brought characteristic cuisine, customs, tourism and culture.

It was worth mentioning that during this expo, 20 forums, 13 cultural interpretations and nearly 130 trade matching activities were held at the same time, with large supermarkets such as Lianhua Supermarket, Greenland Group, D.I.G, Metro and Suning, and e-commerce platforms such as JD, YHD, Alibaba 1688, FreshFresh.com and Fruitday invited.

There were also shows including freehand sketching performance, jewelry appreciation, incense Taoism, purple sand pot art, etc. as well as various entertainment experience and interactive appreciation activities at the exhibition.

Exhibits at the expo from 43 countries enabled us to enjoy the cultural customs from five continents.

At the three-day expo, we will continue to deepen the “Belt and Road” business opportunity in order to provide a complete, convenient and satisfactory trade platform for brand products from China and countries along the route to open the international market.

In addition, the expo will be held in Chongqing on November 23-25 this year, when the organizer will bring together exhibitors to expand the western market, thus providing an excellent opportunity of display and exchange for Chinese and foreign companies to spread their businesses to Western China.

Look forward to meeting you
